Unladen Panel Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 July 2026

The short version

Everything the dashboard shows stays on your machine. Unladen Panel has no servers, no accounts of its own, and no analytics. It makes a small number of outbound requests — weather, and, only if you enable it, your Claude subscription's usage figures — described in full below.

What the app reads on your device

To draw the dashboard, the app reads, about once a second:

All of it is used to render the dashboard image sent to your USB display, then discarded. None of it is transmitted over the internet or shared with anyone.

The sedentary lamp only ever sees the time since your last input (a standard Windows counter); it cannot and does not record what you type or click. Daily sitting totals are saved to a file on your device (sedentary-history.jsonl) so that other apps you choose can read them.

Network connections the app makes

Weather. The app asks Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) for the temperature, conditions, and UV index at your configured coordinates. If you haven't set coordinates, it first asks ip-api.com for the approximate (city-level) location of your internet connection. As with any internet request, those services see your IP address; the app sends them nothing else.

Claude usage (optional). If you connect a Claude account from the tray menu — or have Claude Code installed on the machine — the app fetches your subscription usage percentages from Anthropic (api.anthropic.com). Sign-in happens in your own browser at claude.ai; the app never sees your password. The resulting tokens are stored only on your device, encrypted with Windows DPAPI, and are deleted if you disconnect the account. If Claude Code is installed, the app may also read its local files to estimate usage; those files are read locally and never uploaded.

That is the complete list. The app contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising, and never transmits your hardware, process, or sedentary data anywhere.

Data stored on your device

The app keeps its configuration, logs, daily sedentary history, and (if you connected one) encrypted Claude account tokens in its local data folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\UnladenPanel, or the app's package data folder for Microsoft Store installs). Everything in it stays on your machine. Uninstalling the app does not delete this folder — remove it by hand if you want all data gone.

Third parties

Open-Meteo, ip-api.com, and Anthropic receive requests only in the circumstances described above and handle them under their own privacy policies. The app is distributed through the Microsoft Store, which handles installation and updates under Microsoft's privacy statement.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app ever changes any of the above, this policy will be updated before that version is released, with a new effective date.
