Unladen Movies Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 July 2026

The short version

Unladen Movies is a personal library for the films, shows and books you watch and read. Your library is private to your account. We collect only what you put into the app, we run no advertising and no analytics, we never sell or share your data, and if you want your account gone we delete all of it.

What we collect

Your account. An email address and password, held by our authentication provider (Supabase). If you sign in with Google instead, Google shares your name and email address with us; we never see your Google password. Sign-up confirmation and password-reset emails are delivered through Resend from noreply@unladenmovies.com.

Your library. Everything you record in the app: the titles you add, ratings, watch and read dates, journal notes, your watchlist and reading list, ownership flags, rewatch intervals, who recommended a title, and the achievement badges you earn. All of it is private to your account and enforced at the database level with row-level security, so no other user can read it.

Imports. Letterboxd, IMDb, Goodreads and Kindle imports are processed entirely in your browser: the export file you choose never leaves your device, and only the resulting library entries are saved to your account.

What we don't collect

No advertising, no analytics, no behavioural tracking of any kind. The only cookie the app sets is the session cookie that keeps you signed in.

Friends

Sharing is off unless you opt in by swapping friend codes; both people have to agree. A friend then sees your name, your ratings on titles they look at (only titles you've both got, and only ones you've rated), and the names of achievement badges you've earned. They can never see your watchlist, journal, notes or watch history, and they can't browse your library. Removing a friend or regenerating your code cuts this off immediately.

Title metadata

Search and artwork come from external catalogues: TMDB for movies and TV (streaming availability supplied by JustWatch), and Google Books with Open Library as a fallback for books. Your searches are relayed through our own servers, so these services never learn who you are or what's in your library. Poster and cover images load directly in your browser from those services' image servers; like any image on any website, those servers see your IP address.

Connecting Claude (optional)

You can connect Anthropic's Claude to your account from the Settings page. This is entirely optional. If you connect it, Claude can read and update your own library, and only yours, when you ask it to; what Anthropic does with conversations is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy. You can revoke the connection at any time under Settings → Connected apps.

Where your data lives

The app runs on Vercel and the database and authentication run on Supabase, both in Sydney, Australia. Resend delivers account emails. These providers process data only to run the service; standard, short-lived server logs exist as part of hosting. We share your data with no one else.

Your data stays yours

You can edit or delete any entry, watch or note yourself, and export your ratings from inside the app. Your data is kept until you remove it. To delete your account and everything in it, email unladensoftware@gmail.com and we'll do it promptly.

Children

The app is a general-purpose library tool and is not directed at children.

Changes

If our practices change, this page changes with them, with the date at the top updated.
